Ape Escape: Theses Monkeys are not to be Underestimated
Another game that is somewhat underrated but did get a lot of acclaim world wide is Ape Escape. It was the playstation’s greatest hits. And mostly taking advantage of the Dual Shock controller platform. Yes if you don’t know your playstation history the original playstation controller didn’t even have dual sticks.
Ape Escape Storyline:
Ape Escape was a rather simple yet very enjoyable game. Funny how the simplest of games turn out to be one of the greatest games. But moving on the story line was rather different. I mean when’s the last time you went to go visit a professor after school and then you get sent into the past and you gotta capture monkeys and make it back to the present?
Well that’s pretty much the jist of the game. Ape Escape was just merely catch monkeys at all costs. Even if they run from you, fight you, shoot at you and even set bombs to blow you smithereens. So you really have to stay on your toes for on slight slip and you are screwed. Screwed as in you have to climb mountains or buildings all over again. I’ll stop there before I bring bad memories for those who played the game already.
Ape Escape Gameplay:
The simplicity of this game is rather very simple. Yes you got more gadgets to use as you continue through the game but again the simplicity of switching gadgets and using them was rather cool which I think more modern games should take note of. But then again if you have a large inventory of items then that would complicate things a bit wouldn’t it? (looking at you Final Fantasy and Star Ocean)
Thank goodness you didn’t have to strategize to much for this game though thinking ahead always paid off in this game for surely sneaking up on a monkey while incognito and catching it was better than just running all over the place chasing it. Ape Escape fans were going incognito before it was mainstream with Assassin’s Creed.
But on a geographical note I like how well versed the game was made. You had different pieces of culture from the game from, dinosaurs, Asian culture, Futuristic and more.
Side note this game had two versions the japanese and the american version. Reason I’m bringing this up is because to many like myself back then I would call Spike’s friend Jake. But in the Japanese version his name is buzz. As for the other Ape Escape Characters they were all named the same.
Now that I think about it the character Casi is similar if not the same as Jarvis. Well can’t say the same since “J.A.R.V.I.S” is more superior in my opinion. But is Jarvis equals Just A Rather Very Intelligent System I wonder what Casi stands for? Point is Casi is a digital life form that helps Spike just like Jarvis helps Tony Stark. Thinking of her in that kind of sense.
Ape Escape Overview:
So there’s a little history about playstation if you happen to be reading this and you are growing up playing the PS3 and PS4. And to those who have been dedicated to the playstation franchise I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane. For I’m sure if you have younger siblings you would pass Ape Escape down to them.
