In honor of Jurassic World‘s movie release, I decided to write about one of my favorite childhood games, Chaos Island, which is also probably the best Jurassic Park game to exist.
There are twelve different levels, with options for difficulty levels. You get to choose from five characters plus a research assistant to be on your team. The options are Ian, Sarah, Nick, Eddie, and Kelly.
Each character is voiced by the actor from the film. Each character has different stats. You bring in the characters using your supplies, which you can collect more of during the game.
My absolute favorite part of the game is having my own dinosaurs to hatch and utilize. There are eight different dinosaurs: Parasaurolophus, Compsognathus, Pachycephalosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus.
The herbivores can heal by eating plants so I have them attack and if they’re not doing well, they flee. I also make my carnivores flee and let them heal before I go back to attack. As you go through the levels, you gain access to new characters and new dinosaurs. Each new dinosaur is stronger than the previous. The absolute best is when you have a T-Rex of your own in the last level.
This game is ridiculously fun. I did fail levels a lot, but it was so worth it. It was full of suspense and strategy which made the game thrilling. This is the closet experience to living in the Jurassic Park world that I can get. I have so many strategies where I will just grab a bunch of research assistants initially because there has to be one character still alive for you to pass the level, and then I use my dinosaurs to kill all predators.
If all of your characters die, then you unfortunately have to restart the level. I eventually figured out how to utilize my dinosaurs and characters correctly. I used my dinosaurs to protect my characters, kill the hunters and other dinosaurs, which helped in stealing dinosaur eggs for myself. You also get to use your supplies to build more which is beneficial to your characters. You can repair your buildings if they are attacked which is nice.
There’s also a cute bonus mission where you play as the mother T-Rex and navigate to your baby T-Rex. I basically try to run through as fast as I can. As the T-Rex, anyone that gets in your way is trying to attack you. Instead of killing them all, I just run through and only kill if I have to.
I have replayed this game so many times. It doesn’t get boring or repetitive. There are some constant things, but otherwise your actions and timing determine what happens. I can not emphasize enough how much I love this game.
If you’re a Jurassic Park fan like me, this is a game you must play! Even if you’re not a fan, I recommend trying it at least once. I am sure you will not regret it!
