Kotor 2: The Clash of Beliefs and Lightsabers
Welcome to the Next Door Gamer everyone and I’ll be covering one of my favorite games, Star Wars Knights of the old Republic 2. I’ll being saying Kotor 2 throughout this game review for obviously this game title is too long for me to keep retyping. If you’ve already beaten the game check out Part 2 of this article. ANYWAYS ON TO THE GAME REVIEW!
So I’ve played a few star wars games before Kotor 2 like Jedi Outcast, jedi academy, and Kotor 1. I’m not to much of a fan of the taking turn battle simulation but this game was in my opinion a blend of the real time fighting and turning turns.
Side note I’ve found some small difference between the kotor 2 xbox version and the PC. I like the battle system more on PC than Xbox since I’m not much of a PC gamer. So, I’m happy the game doesn’t recquire a lot of reflex work compared to playing other video games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. I’m screwed if I were to play that on a PC keyboard lol.
The action overall does get the blood pumping even more so once you’ve gotten used to the controls, how the battles are handled in general and as well as once you get comfortable of who you want fighting along side you. I’ll get to the other characters in a moment but I want to start with the main character that you play as.
Now if you saw the video before reading this article here is a valid knowledge of the main character. According to the Kotor 2 wiki, the Jedi Exile goes by the name of Meetra Surik. So that is a little spoiler for those who have not played the game but I think that’s a spoiler you can live with 😛
But that’s what I also like about the game because you can choose which gender you would like to play with. Which I think is always cool and more like necessary since female gamers are just as relevant as male gamers. Naturally the story is built to whichever gender you choose, so feel to play with both characters to see the difference like myself and many others did.
Now going pass the obvious, you can choose which side of the force you want to grow stronger but I’m going to take a deeper dive into this game. You can devlope powers on both sides of the force like many other wielders of the Force like Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn
Kotor 2 Storyline:
This game’s story line is amazing to me. Only because there is a character by the name of Kreia who may not be as respectable to many but nonetheless her lessons in this game go far beyond the game itself. So kudos to lead screen writer Chris Avellone and Ferret Baudoin.
At least when I was playing the game I really felt like I was a jedi student learning from a jedi master. (For those who played and beat this game please be mindful as I’m writing this article while trying not to spoil the game for those who haven’t played it)
But don’t worry I will expand on Kreia some more in another article for Kreia can practically be a series of writings for me for I have a lot to say about Kreia as a whole. But anyways back to Kotor 2, the game takes place right after Revan defeats Darth Malik.
You actually start Kotor 2 on the Ebon Hawk which is the same ship Revan and his crew from Kotot 1 flew through space in. And that’s all I’m going to say on the connection to your spaceship and Revan.
Now bad guys, There are a few bad guys in this game who nonetheless deserve some recognition. Of course there’s the shady guy in the mask and the other guy who is best described in the game, “the man who sleeps with vibroblades” (don’t worry fans I thought about you lol)
Kotor 2 Overview:
The graphics of the game are on a par level in my opinion but it’s nothing that would bother you since you do have a full plate of things to worry about in the game from learning controls, learning your new partners in crime and to of course try to figure out how the story comes to an end.
The soundtrack on this is game is I want to say above average because to any of you who have already played the game you probably already tried mediating to the song: “Aboard the Ebon Hawk”. Even the music in some of the deepest and intense parts of the game are very well captured if I say so myself. These are songs definitely worth relistening to on youtube.
If you want links to the songs on the soundtrack just leave a comment below requesting them and I’ll be sure to provide for you all to enjoy.
Also too, if you enjoy plot twists then you will also enjoy the game, and don’t forget sarcastic jokes and puns for there is a little bit of everything in this game which is what made the game very enjoyable in between all the fighting in this game.
In the next article I’ll write more from the perspective of the people who have already played the game. Ultimately I think many would agree with me that Kotor 2 is definitely a game worth playing again. And if you’re like me you’ve probbaly played this game three to four times.
Twice to play on both sides of the force, one more time to play with different special abilities and more time to play with a different gender. I kid you not this is what I did.
I hope you all enjoy some fan art and cosplay of some the characters Kotor 2.
