Mario Kart Wii

Mario Kart Wii

Being a huge Mario fan, and after having had played the Mario Kart arcade game as a child at Chuck E. Cheese’s, I expected to love this game. However, I was extremely disappointed. The Wii version of the game does not compare to the arcade version. I found this version to be more difficult, less engaging, and less interesting.

There are so many different racing games out there and I have found other Wii racing games that are so much better. My personal favorites are Need for Speed: Nitro and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing (read about these in later posts). The Need for Speed series is very well done and Sonic is exactly what I expected Mario Kart on the Wii to be. The power ups on Mario Kart Wii are not as well done as the exciting power ups on Sonic. I was about to go into everything I love about Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing here, but that rant is for another time. Anyways, beyond the Wii, even PC racing games are amazing. One of my all time classic favorites is Crazy Taxi.

Mario Kart for the Wii just does not do justice to the arcade game that is more competitive, more varied, more engaging, more interesting, and visually more appealing. I have friends who are a huge fan of this game, but I still do not find this game to be amazing. I think people need to branch out and try to give other racing games a chance. I do not think that Mario Kart Wii offers enough interesting options in the tracks or power ups. The characters are classic of any Mario game and suffice, and the music is decent. I only played this game for a few hours and I do not see myself going back for it. There’s much more out there and I think if given a chance. the other games could gain just as much popularity.
